The Trico Pioneers will take on the Goreville Blackcats at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Trico will be strutting in after a victory while Goreville will be coming in after a loss.
Trico will roll into the matchup after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run on Saturday, then bounced right back against Steeleville on Monday. The Pioneers put the hurt on the Warriors with a sharp 13-2 win. The result was nothing new for the Pioneers, who have now won four games by ten runs or more so far this season.
Zoe Bennett looked comfortable as she tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. She also tossed two walks, marking her first of the season.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Whitney Lovel, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one double. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. Hayleigh Franklin was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Trico was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .421. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Steeleville only posted a batting average of .227.
Meanwhile, Goreville was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 4-3 heartbreaker at the hands of Johnston City.
Ellie Tripp was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Goreville's loss dropped their record down to 4-7. As for Trico, their victory ended a six-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 4-6.
Trico came out on top in a nail-biter against Goreville in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, sneaking past 2-0. Do the Pioneers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Blackcats turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
