Basketball Recap: Uriel Castro Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Aztec

Bernalillo won the last time they faced Aztec and things went their way on Saturday too. The Bernalillo Spartans came out on top in a nail-biter against the Aztec Tigers, sneaking past 65-62. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Spartans.

Bernalillo's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Uriel Castro, who went 5 of 12 on his way to 15 points and seven rebounds. Castro is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last five games he's played. Nathan Encinias was another key player, putting up 13 points along with eight boards and three steals.

Bernalillo was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Bernalillo has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 5-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.5 points per game. As for Aztec, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-5.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Bernalillo will take on Taos in a holiday battle at at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Taos knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past four matches -- so hopefully Bernalillo likes a good challenge. As for Aztec, they will be taking part in a tournament against Northwest at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
