Seagraves had lost 12 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Tuesday they dropped down to 1-6 to make it 13. They took an 18-14 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Smyer Bobcats. The Eagles were not able to make up for their defeat to the Bobcats from their previous meeting back in April of 2025.
Lucas Mijares made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 4-for-5 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. He also put up a stolen base, which was his first of the season. Zane Thompson was another key player, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
As for Smyer, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 6-10. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
On Smyer's side, Skylar Pond was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and six unearned) runs off four hits. Pond has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Austin Martinez and Caleb Pearce did most of the damage at the plate: Martinez got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI, while Pearce got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases, four runs, and two RBI. Smyer is 2-1 when Martinez posts two or more stolen bases, but 4-9 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Tango Pastusek, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs.
While Seagraves had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
