Eastern Wayne is 1-7 against North Johnston since April of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Warriors will head out to challenge the Panthers at 6:30 p.m. Eastern Wayne has given up an average of 21.6 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Eastern Wayne is headed into Tuesday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 19th straight game dating back to last season two weeks ago. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 15-14 heartbreaker at the hands of Wayne Preparatory Academy.
Jhavon H made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in all six of his plate appearances with four stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Jr G also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen bases of the season.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last matchup, North Johnston made sure to put some runs up on the board against Wilson Prep on Monday. The Panthers' pitchers stepped up to hand the Tigers a 14-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won ten games by ten runs or more so far this season.
Cameron Cuddington and Charlie Barnes did most of the damage at the plate: Cuddington went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases and three runs, while Barnes went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. That's the most RBI Barnes has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Cooper Hall, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with three runs.
North Johnston moved to 15-7 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for Eastern Wayne, their loss dropped their record down to 0-15.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Eastern Wayne has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like North Johnston struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Eastern Wayne suffered a grim 34-0 defeat to North Johnston when the teams last played back in March. Can the Warriors avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
