The Queensbury Spartans will head out on the road to challenge the Glens Falls Black Bears at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Queensbury is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.7 runs per game this season.
On Friday, Queensbury got the win against Broadalbin-Perth by a conclusive 12-1. The victory continues a trend for the Spartans in their matchups with the Patriots: they've now won six in a row.
Haylee Hayes made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Hayes was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.
In other pitching news, Lillian Smith looked comfortable as she didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Mckenna Hazelton was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Sydney Lamy, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles.
Queensbury was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .556. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Glens Falls was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 4-3 heartbreaker at the hands of Scotia-Glenville.
Isabella Johnson put in work while hitting and pitching. She struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Johnson was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Johnson wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Lily Canale, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Queensbury's record now sits at 6-8. As for Glens Falls, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-6.
Queensbury came up short against Glens Falls in their previous matchup back in April, falling 4-0. Can the Spartans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
