The Webber Trojans struggled with offensive rebounds on Tuesday (the Pope County Pirates had 1100% more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Webber had to suffer through a rough 68-32 loss at the hands of Pope County. Webber was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 55-13.
When it comes to explaining why Webber lost, one person who can't be blamed is Shayla Brumley. Despite the final result, she scored 10 points. Another player making a difference was Alli Smith, who scored 6 points.
Pope County's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ahry Comer led the charge by scoring 11 points along with 7 rebounds and 7 steals. Comer is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Maddie Walker, who scored 13 points along with 8 rebounds.
This is the second loss in a row for Webber and nudges their season record down to 1-2. As for Pope County, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 5-0.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Webber's road trip will continue as they head out to face Meridian at 6:15 p.m. on November 27th. Hopefully Meridian focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up eight on Monday. As for Pope County, they will head out on the road to face off against Northside Baptist Christian at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
