After a string of five wins, the Cotopaxi Pirates's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They fell just short of Evangel Christian Academy by a score of 49-46. Cotopaxi has struggled against Evangel Christian Academy recently, as their match on Saturday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the loss, Cotopaxi had strong showings from Hayden Eggleston, who scored 18 points along with seven steals, and Eden Merrill, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds and three steals. That's the first time this season that Merrill scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Abby Fieth, who scored six points along with nine rebounds and three steals.
Cotopaxi's defeat was their third straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 5-1. As for Evangel Christian Academy, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 4-1.
Cotopaxi will be home for the holidays to greet Trinidad at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Evangel Christian Academy will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Sierra Grande at 12:00 p.m. on January 6, 2024.
