Williams Field is 0-6 against Gilbert since March of 2019 but things could change on Tuesday. Williams Field will look to defend their home field against Gilbert at 6:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Williams Field made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Dobson, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Williams Field blew past Dobson 17-1 on Friday. The victory was some much needed relief for the Black Hawks as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.
Emma Childress was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and 15 unearned) runs off one hit. That's the fewest hits she has allowed since back in April of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one RBI.
In other batting news, Williams Field got a massive performance out of Jyllian Skoda, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Lauren Petranek was another key player, scoring three runs while going 3-for-4.
Williams Field hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.
Gilbert never got on the board in their matchup on Thursday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Mesa on Monday. They were the clear victors by a 17-1 margin over the Jackrabbits. With that win, the Tigers brought their scoring average up to 6.6 runs per game.
Like Williams Field, Gilbert also got a great game from a two-way player: Tyler Gordanier. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Gordanier has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Arianna Leon, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, five RBI, and three runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in February of 2024. Another player making a difference was Michelle Pacheco, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3.
With the victory, Gilbert broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 5-8. As for Williams Field, their win bumped their record up to 7-8-1.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Williams Field hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .360. However, it's not like Gilbert struggles in that department as they've averaged .370. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
