Basketball Recap: Normandy Snaps Five-Game Streak of Wins at Home

It was a good run, but Normandy unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Monday. They fell to the Westlake Demons 44-39. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Invaders this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 58-51 back in December of 2024.

Normandy's loss came despite strong showings from Sofia Szymczak and Ziley Minich. Szymczak posted eight points and three steals, while Minich went 6 for 15 en route to 14 points and three steals. That's the most points Szymczak has posted since back in November of 2024. Another player making a difference was Lindsay Meriwether, who earned four points and four steals.

Even though they lost, Normandy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in four consecutive matches.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Westlake to victory, but perhaps none more so than Husneya Najjar, who went 5 of 9 on her way to 14 points and six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Ella Henton, who went 6 for 12 en route to 15 points and three steals.

Normandy's defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-7. As for Westlake, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 12 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-7 record this season.

Normandy has already played their next game (against North Olmsted), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Westlake has also has no score uploaded for their next matchup, this one against Buckeye.
