I Section V recap September 17, 2013
Horizon was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fourth to second in I Section V. Earlier in the week, the Huskies defeated Millennium 34-14.
Boulder Creek was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after defeating Desert Vista. The Jaguars came in at 22 in the state poll after placing at number 41 last week.
Boulder Creek's dynamic duo of Trevor Miller and Dan Johnson proved tough for the Thunder to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Miller threw for 189 yards and Johnson had 81 yards receiving. Isaiah Birkel helped Boulder Creek's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 49 yards.
Dan Friedman's team's dynamic duo of Miller and Johnson proved to be unstoppable against Desert Vista, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week.
Jro Byrd made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Jaguars bested Dan Hinds' team. The 5-foot-8 senior.
Johnson was the best receiver in the league this week as Boulder Creek topped the Thunder.
Josh Hoekstra was the most successful running back in the league this week. In 21 carries, he ran for 108 yards as Pinnacle topped Desert Vista. Teammate Brian Lewerke added to the ground attack by rushing for 70 yards.
Miller put up the best numbers in passing as Boulder Creek defeated the Thunder.
6-foot-1 quarterback Dalton Sneed of Horizon is the league leader in passing yards this season with 639. He has also thrown 6 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Mason Hatton. The Pinnacle star has 16 catches for 246 yards.
O'Connor fell to Desert Ridge 55-0 last week, the largest margin of any game.
