Cahokia hasn't had much luck against Columbia recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. Having just played yesterday, the Comanches will head out on the road to face off against the Eagles at 3:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Cahokia will bounce into Saturday's contest after beating Marion, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. The Comanches secured a 58-54 W over the Wildcats on Friday. The win was nothing new for the Comanches as they're now sitting on four straight.
It was another big night for C'narri Griffin, who shot 70% from the field on his way to 20 points and five boards. The last time his shooting accuracy was this high was back in January of 2025. Taven Miller was another key player, going 7-for-13 en route to 17 points.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Columbia). They really took it to East Alton-Wood River for the full four quarters, racking up a 76-28 victory. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Eagles' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 119th, while the Oilers are ranked 663rd).
Cahokia better keep an eye on Eddie Smajic. He was instrumental in Columbia's win, putting up 22 points. Smajic's big performance that evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least 17 points.
Columbia's record is now 13-4. As for Cahokia, their win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 7-8.
This contest is shaping up to be a blowout: Cahokia hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 58.5 points per game. It's a different story for Columbia, though, as they've been averaging only 23.9 points. The only thing between Cahokia and another offensive beatdown is the Eagles. Will they be able to keep them contained?
Cahokia took a serious blow against Columbia in their previous meeting back in January of 2025, falling 77-49. That game was all but decided by halftime, at which point the Comanches were down 51-23.
