Division I recap September 17, 2013
La Salle Academy's Dontre Odufunade recorded the longest rushing play in Division I this season in his game against Fitch last week. Odufunade's team bested the Falcons as he sprinted for 57 yards on the play and finished with 102 in all.
Portsmouth was the team that made the biggest jump in the rankings, moving from fifth to second in the league. The Patriots defeated Rogers 21-6 earlier in the week.
MARVEN BEAUVAIS was the best wideout in the league this week as Cranston East topped Toll Gate. BEAUVAIS racked up 2 receptions for 95 yards. JIMMY SAAB helped Cranston East's passing attack out by catching 4 balls for 61 yards.
Patrick Gill put up the best numbers through the air as Bishop Hendricken bested St. Raphael Academy. He finished with a total of 3 completions for 63 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Travis O'Brien was the most successful running back in Division I this week. He ran for 150 yards on 24 carries as Portsmouth bested the Titans. Matthew Sewall also contributed to the rushing game with 100 yards on the ground.
ALEX CORVESE provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Cranston East topped Toll Gate. He completed 8 passes for 197 yards and also ran for 66 yards.
Thomas Centore's team's CORVESE and BEAUVAIS have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. 5-10 quarterback CORVESE has thrown for 715 yards this season, while BEAUVAIS has 10 catches for 348 yards. The Hawks' Gary Gibbs leads the league in rushing yards with 172.
The marquee game in the league this week will be the clash between Cranston West and Barrington. The Falcons enters the contest ranked fourth in the state, while the Eagles ranks ninth.
South Kingstown was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after topping West Warwick. The Rebels came in at 19 in the state poll after placing at number 26 last week.
