The Western Christian Pioneers will venture away from home to face off against the Perrydale Pirates at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Western Christian has given up an average of 17.5 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Western Christian came up short against Country Christian on Friday, falling 19-6. The defeat continues a trend for the Pioneers in their meetings with the Cougars: they've now lost four in a row.
Western Christian saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ariah Dolyniuk, who went 2-for-3 with two runs.
Meanwhile, Perrydale had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.8 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Friday. Everything went their way against the Vikings as they made off with a 26-10 victory. While the Pirates didn't have the best season last year (they finished 2-14), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Sophie Jackson was incredible, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with five runs, six RBI, and one stolen base. She has been hot recently, having posted three or more RBI the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Brooklynn Barcroft, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and two doubles.
Perrydale hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Colton struck out six times.
Perrydale's record now sits at 9-2. As for Western Christian, their loss dropped their record down to 2-14.
Monday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Western Christian has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .493. However, it's not like Perrydale struggles in that department as they've averaged .640. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Western Christian might still be hurting after the 25-4 defeat they got from Perrydale when the teams last played two weeks ago. Can the Pioneers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
