If the Antonito Trojans were riding high off their 59-19 takedown of the Lake City Community 14ers last Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Antonito took a hard 59-43 fall against the Miners on Saturday. Antonito was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Miners apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January.
When it comes to explaining why Antonito lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jasiah Jiron. Despite the final result, he shot 4-for-6 from deep and dropped a double-double on 26 points and 13 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Jiron has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Jesus Madril, who scored four points along with five rebounds.
Antonito struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
It was another big night for Will Roden, who dropped a double-double on 27 points and 15 rebounds for Creede. That makes it three consecutive games in which Roden has scored at least a third of Creede's points. Jaxson Fazio was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Antonito's defeat dropped their record down to 2-11. As for Creede, their victory ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-12.
Antonito will take on the 14ers at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Lake City Community comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 24 points in their last three games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse. Creede will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on the Rams at 6:30 p.m. on February 16th.
