Baseball Recap: St. Francis Takes a Loss

St. Francis entered their contest against Palma on Tuesday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Sharks fell just short of the Chieftains by a score of 5-4. The Sharks were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Chieftains apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Evan Dyer was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out 12 batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits.

On the hitting side, Nash Horton was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. St. Francis is 6-2 when Horton posts two or more runs, but 2-3 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Javier Fonseca, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

St. Francis' loss dropped their record down to 8-5. As for Palma, the victory (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 11-2.

While St. Francis had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
