New Oxford is 8-2 against Dover since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Colonials will square off against the Eagles at 4:15 p.m. New Oxford is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.
The home team had come away the winner the last five times New Oxford and South Western had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Colonials never let the Mustangs get on the board and left with a 9-0 win on Thursday. The game was the first time the Colonials have beaten the Mustangs on their field since April 24, 2018.
Not much got past Carter Wagaman, who gave up just three hits and racked up six Ks to keep South Western off the board. Wagaman has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Luke Frey was excellent, going 1-for-3 with three stolen bases and two runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Gavin Haifley, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Spring Grove hit Dover with a seven-run seventh inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Eagles lost 12-2 to the Rockets. That's two games in a row now that the Eagles have lost by exactly ten runs.
Jimmy Ehrlinger was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That home run was his first of the season.
Dover's loss was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-11. As for New Oxford, their victory bumped their record up to 10-3.
New Oxford's speedy runners might be the difference in Wednesday's game. The Colonials have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.9 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Dover, though, as they've been averaging only 1.3 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will New Oxford continue to outrun the ball?
New Oxford took their win against Dover when the teams last played back in March by a conclusive 8-2 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Colonials since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
