On Tuesday, Waverly didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Gretna East, but they still walked away with a 48-43 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Waverly.
Waverly's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Reece Bader, who scored 22 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Bader has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Keaton Rine, who scored 14 points.
Gretna East's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Drew Rhoades, who scored 12 points along with three steals. Jake Hawley was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Waverly's win bumped their record up to 6-9. As for Gretna East, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-11 record this season.
Waverly will head out on the road to face off against Bishop Neumann at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Waverly will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Nebraska Rankings (they are ranked 80th, while Bishop Neumann is ranked 14th). As for Gretna East, their homestand continues as they prepare to take on Lincoln Southwest at 7:15 p.m. on February 2nd. Hopefully Lincoln Southwest focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up nine on Tuesday.
