The Casa Roble Rams waltzed into their matchup on Friday with ten straight wins but they left with 11. They took down Pioneer 68-50. Given Casa Roble's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 383rd, while Pioneer is ranked 1004th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Casa Roble was led to victory by Benny Ambriz and Travis Remly. Ambriz scored 23 points, while Remly dropped a double-double on 20 points and 20 rebounds. Ambriz is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last 17 games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Moses Oginni, who scored nine points along with five assists and two blocks.
Pioneer lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Chancey Minshew, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds. Minshew is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last eight games he's played. Caden Wirth was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with nine rebounds.
Casa Roble is on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 13 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 19-5 record this season. As for Pioneer, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 10-12.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Casa Roble will square off against Mesa Verde at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. The timing isn't great for Mesa Verde: they have been struggling with three straight losses at home, while Casa Roble has snatched up four consecutive wins on the road. As for Pioneer, they will challenge Rio Linda at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Rio Linda knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past four matchups -- so hopefully Pioneer likes a good challenge.
