Basketball Recap: Excelsior Classical Academy Gets the Win

Excelsior Classical Academy hadn't done well against Eno River Academy recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Excelsior Classical Academy Flying Lions pulled ahead with a 55-54 photo finish over the Eno River Academy Bobcats. This was a revenge game for the Flying Lions: when they faced off against the Bobcats back in January, they had to take a 57-40 defeat.

Excelsior Classical Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Hunter Goss led the charge by dropping a double-double on 15 points and 19 rebounds. Goss is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down 14 or more in the last six games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyler Hill, who posted ten points along with six rebounds and three steals.

Excelsior Classical Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive rebounds in 11 consecutive matches.

Despite the loss, Eno River Academy still got an impressive performance from Gabe Harris, who almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine boards. The dominant performance also gave Harris a new career-high in steals (three). Jack Kroothoep was another key player, putting up nine points in addition to six rebounds and six steals.

Excelsior Classical Academy pushed their record up to 11-7 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.7 points per game. As for Eno River Academy, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 11-8.

Excelsior Classical Academy will be playing in front of their home fans against Voyager Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Voyager Academy knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past eight games -- so hopefully Excelsior Classical Academy likes a good challenge. As for Eno River Academy, they are taking a road trip to square off against Roxboro Community at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Eno River Academy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.9 points per game this season.
