Football Recap: Vanessa Vancott's Menacing Defense Leads Mater Lakes Academy over Somerset Academy

Mater Lakes Academy owes their defense a big pat on the back after their performance on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 25-0 margin over the Somerset Academy Panthers. The result was nothing new for the Bears, who have now won four matches by 20 points or more so far this season.

Valentina Builes looked great while leading her team to the win, throwing for 150 yards and two TDs, while also rushing for 36 yards.

Mater Lakes Academy didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Vanessa Vancott, Patience Mosely, and Kassandra Rios picked up one apiece. Mosely got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Mater Lakes Academy is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 2.4 points on average over those games. As for Somerset Academy, their loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-3.

Mater Lakes Academy wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 25-19 victory against Goleman on the 7th. Somerset Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
