Monticello hasn't had much luck against Gunnison Valley recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Buckaroo will take on the Bulldogs at 2:00 p.m. Monticello is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.3 runs per game this season.
While Monticello's win against North Sevier wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Buckaroo had just enough and edged out the Wolves 12-10. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Buckaroo.

Triston Felix was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He is becoming a predictor of Monticello's success: when he allows at most one hit the team is undefeated (and 2-4 when he doesn't). Felix was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.
In other batting news, Arturo Guiterrez was excellent, scoring a run while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Kord Young, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-4.
Monticello kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Gunnison Valley might've scored the first runs on Friday, but it was San Juan who claimed the real prize. The Bulldogs took a 12-9 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Broncos.
Peyton Sanders made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored three runs while going 3-for-4. Dillon Dyreng was another key player, scoring three runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Monticello pushed their record up to 7-4 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.8 runs over those games. As for Gunnison Valley, their defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 7-1 and their overall record down to 12-7.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Monticello has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.5 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Gunnison Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Monticello suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Gunnison Valley in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Buckaroo avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
