Softball Recap: Medina Picks Up Fourth Consecutive Victory

Medina came tearing into Friday's contest with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They put the hurt on the Independence Blue Devils with a sharp 17-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Bees, who have now won 12 games by seven runs or more so far this season.

Brooke Housum was a major factor no matter where she played. She pitched 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one double and one RBI.

In other pitching news, Kylie Thompson looked comfortable as she pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Kaite Rubino, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, five RBI, and three runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Ryann Allar, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double.

Medina always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .719. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Independence only posted an OBP of .238.

Medina's record now sits at 18-6. As for Independence, the defeat snapped their winning streak at 11 games and leaves them with a 13-4 record.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Medina will challenge GlenOak at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Independence, they will take on Black River at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Blue Devils will need to watch out since the Pirates have now posted at least ten runs in their last three matchups.
