The Merryville Panthers will be taking part in a tournament against the Jennings Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Merryville is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season.
Merryville's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They put the hurt on Oberlin with a sharp 15-0 win. The Panthers haven't had any issues with the Tigers recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
B Stewart looked comfortable as she tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.
On the hitting side, Merryville got a massive performance out of Shaylee Lott, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-2. Lott also put up a double, which was her first of the season. Paisley Burge was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing Three bases. while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
Merryville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .759. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Jennings entered their tilt with DeQuincy on Wednesday with two consecutive wins , and they'll enter their next game with three. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 4-3 W against the Tigers.
Jenna Morvant spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Jennings let Madeleine Person and Kylie Price run wild. Person scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Price scored a run while going 1-for-3. Another player making a difference was Ava Gary, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in both of her plate appearances.
Merryville pushed their record up to 7-6 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Jennings, their victory bumped their record up to 6-2.
Merryville suffered a grim 12-2 defeat to Jennings in their previous meeting two weeks ago. Can Merryville avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
