Basketball Recap: Gabrielle Matthews and Caitlyn Jones Secure Win for Rolesville

Rolesville won the last time they faced Knightdale and things went their way on Wednesday too. The Rolesville Rams blew past the Knightdale Knights 67-42. The Rams have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine matches by 25 points or more this season.

Leading Rolesville to victory were Caitlyn Jones and Gabrielle Matthews. Jones went 8 of 15 en route to 20 points in addition to five assists and four steals, while Matthews went 8 for 14 on her way to 20 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. The dominant performance also gave Matthews a new career-high in three-point shooting accuracy (67%). Jahriell Murchison was another key player, putting up seven points.

They weren't the only ones working in the assist department: Rolesville was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Knightdale only racked up three assists.

Despite the loss, Knightdale saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Leia Rios went 6 for 11 to rack up 20 points. Rios is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Ayomide Adewumi, who posted seven points and seven boards.

The win made it two in a row for Rolesville and bumps their season record up to 12-9. As for Knightdale, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 15-5.

Rolesville wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 75-39 victory against Millbrook on the 7th. As for Knightdale, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 51-30 win against Heritage on the 7th.
