Leon is 0-10 against Chiles since April of 2021 but things could change on Thursday. The Lions will face off against the Timberwolves at 7:00 p.m. Leon is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.6 runs per game this season.
Leon is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Lincoln, sneaking past 8-6. The game was the first time the Lions have beaten the Trojans on their field since April 9, 2019.
Leon got a big performance out of Trinity Williams, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashonti Alexander, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Meanwhile, Chiles entered their tilt with Leon last Tuesday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Lions a 14-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Timberwolves, who have now won 17 matches by six runs or more so far this season.
Chiles let Adelyn Matthews and Benny Powell run wild. Matthews went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and one triple, while Powell went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most runs Powell has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Kaitlyn Fagan, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one RBI.
Chiles was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .522. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .312 or higher in 12 consecutive games.
Chiles pushed their record up to 18-3 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Leon, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 16-9.
Both Leon and Chiles just can't seem to miss. The Lions have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.2 hits per game. However, it's not like Chiles struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.2 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Leon suffered a grim 14-0 defeat to Chiles in their previous meeting last Tuesday. Can the Lions avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
