Hondo Valley and Carrizozo go head to head on Friday at 7:00 PM in their first playoff contest of the year. Hondo Valley know how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past three matchups -- so hopefully Carrizozo like a good challenge.
Last Friday, Carrizozo put the finishing touches on their 7th blowout victory of the season. They put a hurting on Lake Arthur to the tune of 72-33. No one put up better numbers for Carrizozo than senior Jacob Narvaez, who brought his A game into the match. He rushed for 112 yards and 3 touchdowns. If you haven't heard Narvaez's name lately, then you haven't been paying much attention: he has loomed large in their past six games.
Meanwhile, after flying high against Lake Arthur two weeks ago, Hondo Valley came back down to earth. Hondo Valley ended up on the wrong side of a painful 44-74 walloping at Elida's hands. The state rankings had actually given Hondo Valley a slight edge heading into the game, making this hurt that much more.
Carrizozo's win lifted them to 7-2 while Hondo Valley's defeat dropped them down to 3-6. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, Hondo Valley and Carrizozo will really light up the scoreboard.
