Estancia has gone a perfect 4-0 against Penasco recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Bears will challenge the Panthers at 3:00 p.m. Estancia is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 12.4 runs per game this season.
Estancia took a loss when they played away from home on Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They blew past Clayton 17-0. Considering the Bears have won five matchups by more than nine runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Michael Anaya was a standout: he got on base in all four of his plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and one triple. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March of 2025. Another player making a difference was Devon Chavez, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and one stolen base.
Estancia always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .656. They are 6-3 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Penasco duked it out with Questa on Tuesday. The Panthers had just enough and edged out the Wildcats 4-3. The win was familiar territory for the Panthers, who have now won three games in a row.
Xzavier Montoya spent all five innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on three hits and racked up ten Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Penasco's victory was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Kaileb Atencio, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.
Estancia's record is now 6-7. As for Penasco, their record now sits at 7-9.
Thursday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Estancia has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .556. However, it's not like Penasco struggles in that department as they've averaged .454. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Estancia's way against Penasco in their previous meeting back in April of 2025, as Estancia made off with a 15-1 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bears since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
