Mount Dora has gone a perfect 6-0 against Atlantic recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Canes will head out to square off against the Sharks at 4:30 p.m. Mount Dora is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last seven games.
While Mount Dora's victory against Tavares wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Canes skirted past the Bulldogs 4-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Canes have posted against the Bulldogs since March 31, 2022.
Charlie Antunez looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Mount Dora secured the victory behind a pair of hitters. One of them was Brady Smith, who went 1-for-2 with two runs.
Meanwhile, while Atlantic put up plenty of runs on Thursday, the same can't be said for New Smyrna Beach. The Sharks blew past the Barracudas 16-0. With that win, the Sharks brought their scoring average up to 6.1 runs per game.
Nicolas Lutton looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Atlantic is 4-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 6-11 otherwise.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Josiah Perez, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Cameron Mcarthur was another key player, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
Atlantic always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .567. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Mount Dora's record now sits at 13-7. As for Atlantic, their record is now 10-12.
Everything went Mount Dora's way against Atlantic when the teams last played back in February, as Mount Dora made off with a 14-2 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Canes since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
