The Plattsburgh Hornets will face off against the Saranac Chiefs at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Plattsburgh comes in on 11 and Saranac on three.
While Plattsburgh's victory against Northeastern Clinton wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Hornets skirted past the Cougars 4-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Hornets have posted since April 18th.

Diego Rios made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple.
In other batting news, Raif Lautenscheutz was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. That's the most hits he has posted over his last 11 matchups.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Saranac). They blew past Chateaugay 21-6 on Monday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.
Like Plattsburgh, Saranac also got a great game from a two-way player: Austin Lareau. Throwing, Lareau pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Caleb Champagne tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. At bat, Lareau got on base in three of his five plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Champagne got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Adrian Barnes, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. He also got three hits, which is notable because Saranac is undefeated when he posts at least three hits, but 5-7 otherwise. Dominick LaBombard was another key player, getting on base in two of his five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Saranac always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .644. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Saranac now has a winning record of 8-7. As for Plattsburgh, their win bumped their record up to 14-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Plattsburgh has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 10.3 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Saranac struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Plattsburgh couldn't quite finish off Saranac in their previous meeting back in April of 2025 and fell 7-5. Can the Hornets avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
