The Wellsboro Hornets will venture away from home to face off against the Athens Wildcats at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Wellsboro is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victors by an 18-3 margin over Coudersport on Saturday. The Hornets haven't had any issues with the Falcons recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
Gabe Sprouse made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Wellsboro is 3-1 when Sprouse allows one or fewer earned runs, but 2-6 otherwise. Sprouse was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Marek Mascho, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. He has become a key player for Wellsboro: the team is undefeated when he posts at least three RBI, but 2-7 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Alec Magli, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and two runs.
Wellsboro was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .688. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Athens made easy work of Sayre on Friday and carried off a 14-2 win.
Like Wellsboro, Athens also got a great game from a two-way player: Brady Flynn. On the mound, he struck out 12 batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits (and only one walk). Flynn has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Troy Rosenbloom was incredible, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases, four runs, and one double. Those four runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kamdyn Wheeler, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI and one run.
Wellsboro's record is now 5-7. As for Athens, their record now sits at 10-2.
Wellsboro might still be hurting after the 16-10 loss they got from Athens in their previous matchup back in March. Can the Hornets avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
