The Highland Park Giants lost against the Maine West Warriors back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Highland Park fell to Maine West 38-34. Highland Park has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Despite the defeat, Highland Park had strong showings from Kourtnie Halperin, who scored 19 points, and Mckenzie Reitmayer, who scored nine points along with five rebounds. Reitmayer scored a full 26.5% of Highland Park's points, the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Highland Park struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Highland Park's defeat dropped their record down to 5-5. As for Maine West, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 6-3.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Highland Park will take on Niles North at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Maine West, they will head out on the road to face off against Wheeling at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Wheeling will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings (they are ranked 518th, while Maine West is ranked 188th).
