The Colorado Wolves will host the Bangs Dragons at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Colorado comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
Last Friday, Colorado had to suffer through a 40-7 loss at the hands of Grape Creek.
Colorado's defeat came about despite a quality game from Jadon Reyna, who picked up 76 receiving yards and one score. The bulk of those receiving yards came from one huge play: a catch that gained an incredible 55 yards.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Bangs). They blew past Texas Leadership Charter Academy - Abilene, posting a 71-0 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Dragons.
Colorado better keep an eye on Hunter Withers. He was instrumental in Bangs' win, throwing for 111 yards and a pair of TDs while completing 80% of his passes, and also punching in one rushing score. What's more, Withers posted two passing touchdowns, the most he's had since back in October of 2024. Brennan Mendieta was in the mix as well, providing Bangs with two touchdowns.
Bangs was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 237 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 198 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.
Bangs didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Cason Tidwell, Mendieta, and Connor Bible picked up one apiece. Tidwell has been hot for a while, having also posted five or more total tackles the last 11 times he's played. Bangs received some extra help from Mendieta, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.
Colorado's loss dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Bangs, the victory got them back to even at 2-2.
Colorado won a contest that couldn't have been any closer in their previous matchup back in September of 2024, slipping by Bangs 37-36. Will the Wolves repeat their success, or do the Dragons have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
