Last Thursday, Asheville Christian Academy came up short against Summit Charter and fell 50-37.
Asheville Christian Academy might have lost, but man, Ansley Fuchs was a machine: she almost dropped a double-double with 13 points and nine steals. Fuchs also put up two blocks, which were her first of the season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Calvary Day School). They breezed past Oak Ridge Military Academy to the tune of 72-31 last Tuesday. The Cougars pushed the score to 55-24 by the end of the third, a deficit the Eagles had no chance of recovering from.
Calvary Day School's win came from a few key players Asheville Christian Academy will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Kayla George, who almost dropped a double-double with 21 points and nine boards. George is also crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Adrianna Urrea, who went 8-for-12 on her way to 19 points.
Asheville Christian Academy's loss dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Calvary Day School, their victory bumped their record up to 4-0.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Asheville Christian Academy has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 23 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Calvary Day School struggles in that department as they've been averaging 28.2 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Everything came up roses for Asheville Christian Academy against Calvary Day School in their previous matchup back in November of 2017, as the squad secured a 63-22 win. Do the Lions have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cougars turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
