The Memorial Red Devils's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their tenth straight loss. They were the victim of a tough 42-22 defeat at the hands of Jackson-Milton. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Memorial of the 58-32 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in December of 2020.
Despite the loss, Memorial still got an impressive performance from Angeliz Diaz, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and nine rebounds.
Jackson-Milton found their leader in underclassman Amani Yasin, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds and seven steals. Yasin is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 13 games she's played. Another player making a difference was Macayle Thornhill, who scored six points along with three steals.
Memorial dropped their record down to 2-18 with that defeat, which was their fifth straight at home. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 18.6 points per game. As for Jackson-Milton, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 9-10.
Memorial will be playing at home against East Palestine at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Memorial comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 22 points in their last three games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse. Jackson-Milton is on the road again on Saturday and plays Medina Christian Academy at 3:00 p.m. on February 10th. Hopefully Jackson-Milton focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 22 on Wednesday.
