Southwind and Memphis Central are an even 3-3 against one another since March of 2019, but likely not for long. The Jaguars will be playing at home against the Warriors at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. Southwind is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last four games.
Southwind is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against Overton on Thursday as they made off with a 16-6 win. The result was nothing new for the Jaguars, who have now won five games by eight runs or more so far this season.
Christian Coleman made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off ten hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. That double marked the first that he has hit this season.
In other batting news, Southwind got a massive performance out of Muhammad Diallo, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That's the most runs Diallo has posted since back in March. Tyrez Taylor was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
Southwind hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Overton struck out nine times.
Meanwhile, Memphis Central didn't have quite enough to beat Harding Academy on Thursday and fell 5-4.
Memphis Central saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Joshua Hollowell, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI and one double.
Southwind pushed their record up to 11-5 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for Memphis Central, their loss dropped their record down to 16-5.
Southwind might still be hurting after the 12-4 defeat they got from Memphis Central in their previous matchup back in March. Will the Jaguars have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other baseball content.
