Baseball Recap: Southwest Covenant Picks Up Fifth Consecutive Victory

Southwest Covenant came out on top against Minco on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run fourth inning. The Patriots' pitchers stepped up to hand the Bulldogs an 8-0 shutout. Considering the Patriots have won six matches by more than seven runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

The team relied heavily on Evan Beshears, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four stolen bases, three doubles, and two runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Tate Flanary, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases.

The victory was the fifth in a row for Southwest Covenant, bringing their record up to 9-7. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Minco, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-13 record this season.

Southwest Covenant has already played their next game, an 18-5 victory against Wellston on the 23rd. As for Minco, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next match, a 9-0 loss against Putnam City West on the 18th.
