The Sumner Tigers will venture away from home to take on the Narraguagus Knights at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Sumner has given up an average of 7.3 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Sumner managed to slip by Washington Academy the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Tigers lost 11-1 to the Raiders on Wednesday. That's two games in a row now that the Tigers have lost by exactly ten runs.
Meanwhile, Narraguagus strolled into their game on Tuesday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They put the hurt on Woodland with a sharp 15-2 win. The result was nothing new for the Knights, who have now won five games by 11 runs or more so far this season.
Emma Shaw and Natalie Stanwood made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Shaw pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Stanwood struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just two earned runs but no hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up a single hit any time she's pitched this season. At bat, Shaw got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, while Stanwood got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Narraguagus let Paidyn Cashman and Lola Worcester run wild. Cashman got on base in three of her four plate appearances with four stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI, while Worcester got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Worcester is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: she's snagged at least one every time she's taken the field this season. Audrey Gray also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.
Narraguagus pushed their record up to 6-0 with the victory, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Sumner, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-3.
Sumner came out on top in a nail-biter against Narraguagus in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, sneaking past 7-6. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
