The Sanderson Spartans's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fifth straight loss. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 55-30 walloping at the hands of Broughton. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Sanderson in their matchups with Broughton: they've now lost seven in a row.
Sanderson lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Amyah Lynn, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds. Another player making a difference was Mireya Chavez, who scored four points along with two steals.
Kalajah Wright was her usual excellent self, scoring nine points along with seven rebounds and seven steals for Broughton. Wright hasn't dropped below two steals for six straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Kyra Gustus, who scored 12 points along with three steals.
Sanderson has been struggling recently, as they've lost eight of their last nine matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-13 record this season. As for Broughton, their victory bumped their record up to 6-9.
Sanderson will be playing at home against Enloe at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Enloe is hoping to put an end to a seven-game streak of away losses. As for Broughton, they will head out on the road to challenge Cardinal Gibbons at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Cardinal Gibbons focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 23 on Friday.
