Laurel Highlands recap October 8, 2013
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Penn Cambria, who defeated 393rd ranked Cambria Heights, 32-22.
Fans got a thrill when Jeremy Updyke and Joey Owens connected against Bedford. The connection was good for 305 yards, the longest such play in Laurel Highlands this season.
Will Seymour threw for 151 yards and 22 touchdowns. He was 16-19 with 1 interception.
Joe Donoughe was a passing and rushing force as Forest Hills fell to Central Cambria. He completed 20 passes for 324 yards and 2 touchdowns and also ran for 57 yards. Donoughe's key target this week was Shareef Blough, who caught 7 passes for 87 yards.
Kareem Gibson was the best wideout in the league this week as Greater Johnstown lost to the Bison. Gibson tallied 6 receptions for 121 yards. Trey Andrews helped Greater Johnstown's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 67 yards.
Richland's offense cannot be tamed this season and the Rams feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Matt Shaffer has thrown for 1,233 yards and 18 touchdowns this season, while Kyle Flick has 26 catches for 529 yards.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Somerset takes on Bedford. As it stands, the Eagles are in second, while Kevin Steele's team is in fourth.
Richland added to the longest winning streak in Laurel Highlands this week by beating Somerset, 28-24. The victory was the sixth in a row for the team.
