The Academy Wildcats are on the road again on Wednesday and play against the Brighton Bulldogs at 5:00 p.m. on December 6th. Hopefully The Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Saturday.
Last Saturday, The Academy came up short against Eaton and fell 54-41. The Academy has not had much luck with Eaton recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Despite the loss, The Academy got a solid performance out of Gavin Massler, who scored 18 points along with 7 rebounds. Massler scored a full 43.9% of The Academy's points, the second time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Trey Boychuk, who scored 8 points along with 5 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Brighton was beaten by Eaglecrest 97-36 on Friday. Brighton was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 54-12.
Despite the defeat, Brighton saw an underclassman step up: Austin Sickler scored 10 points. Sickler scored a full 27.8% of Brighton's points, the second time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points.
The Academy's victory lifted them to 2-2 while Eaton's defeat dropped them down to 2-1.
Keep an eye on the arc in Wednesday's matchup: The Academy have made nailing deep shots look easy this year this season, having only averaged 5.8 threes per game. However, it's not like Brighton struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.5 per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
