Chaparral (Parker, Colo.) had its advantage, which at one point stood at 21 points, drop to seven before the final whistle blew on a 28-21 victory over
Regis Jesuit (Aurora, Colo.).
After taking the lead on a touchdown pass by
Max Kuhns to
Mitchell Parsons in the second quarter, the Wolverines led 14-7 at the half.
Chaparral expanded its lead to 21 points entering the fourth quarter. CHS scored two times in the third, including once on a Kuhns touchdown run.
Matt Houghtaling played well for the Raiders. The sophomore quarterback threw three touchdowns. His performance brought his touchdown total to four on the year.
The Parker school's standout player in the win was Kuhns. The senior quarterback threw two touchdowns and ran for one touchdown. He has now scored four touchdowns on the season.
The victory will ease some of the sting of the Wolverines' close 20-17 loss to Regis Jesuit last season.
The loss comes after Regis Jesuit defeated Douglas County 14-0 last week. The victory was a step in the right direction for Chaparral, which was coming off a 38-34 defeat at the hands of Mountain Vista in its previous game.
Chaparral (6-1) goes up against ThunderRidge in a 5A Continental game matchup next week, while Regis Jesuit (3-4) locks horns with Mountain Vista also in a 5A Continental game.
