Softball Recap: West Branch Picks Up Ninth Straight Win at Home

There's no place like home for West Branch, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They put the hurt on the Moshannon Valley Black Knights/Damsels with a sharp 11-5 victory on Thursday. The Warriors might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine contests by six runs or more this season.

Makena Moore made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 15 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lindsey Bainey, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. Kayleigh Woodring also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

West Branch was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .419. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Moshannon Valley only posted a batting average of .222.

West Branch's win was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 14-4. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.6 runs over those games. As for Moshannon Valley, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-11 record this season.

West Branch does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Moshannon Valley, they will take on Glendale at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Black Knights/Damsels are facing the Vikings at the right time seeing as the Vikings are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
