The Bishop Badgers will head out on the road to face off against the Raymondville Bearkats at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Bishop comes in on a streak of failing to score more than nine points in their last three games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
Last Friday, Bishop had to suffer through a rough 38-9 loss at the hands of Port Isabel.
Meanwhile, Raymondville's three-game losing streak came to an end on Thursday. They enjoyed a cozy 31-13 win over Grulla. The win was just what Raymondville needed coming off of a 37-7 loss in their prior match.
Raymondville's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Chris Gonzalez, who picked up 100 receiving yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 46 yards and a touchdown while completing 100% of his passes. Gonzalez's longest reception was for an incredible 89 yards. Luis De La Paz was another key contributor, throwing for 134 yards and two touchdowns on only nine passes.
Bishop has not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-6 record this season. As for Raymondville, their win bumped their record up to an identical 2-6.
Bishop strolled past Raymondville when the teams last played back in October of 2022 by a score of 30-12. The rematch might be a little tougher for Bishop since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
