The Wabaunsee Chargers will square off against the Council Grove Braves at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Wabaunsee will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last.
Wabaunsee gave up the first runs on Monday, but they didn't let that get them down. They were the clear victors by an 18-11 margin over Jefferson County North. The result was nothing new for Wabaunsee, who have now won seven matches by six runs or more so far this season.
Wabaunsee got a massive performance out of Kendra Conrad, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and four RBI. That home run marked the first that Conrad has launched this season. Peyton Wegele was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one double.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Wabaunsee kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They are 7-3 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Council Grove was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 4-2 heartbreaker at the hands of Remington. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Braves have suffered since May 5, 2024.
Council Grove saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jalynn Glacken, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.
Wabaunsee's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-7. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.7 runs over those games. As for Council Grove, their loss dropped their record down to 4-6.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Wabaunsee has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Council Grove struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
