The Columbia Eagles will be playing at home against the Athens Academy Spartans at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Columbia waltzed into Friday's game with three straight wins but they left with four. They breezed by Towers on the road to the tune of 33-6. With Columbia ahead 27-0 at the half, the contest was all but over already.
Columbia's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Lamaze Williams led the charge by rushing for 131 yards and a touchdown on only 13 carries. The team also got some help courtesy of Cameron Graves, who rushed for 100 yards and a touchdown on only five carries.
Meanwhile, Athens Academy took their matchup at home on Friday with ease, bagging a 59-21 win over East Jackson. The game was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Athens Academy had established a 25 point advantage.
Athens Academy can attribute much of their success to Jeremiah Wingfield, who rushed for 161 yards and a touchdown, and Jamari Welch, who rushed for 153 yards and a touchdown on only 15 carries. Wingfield has been hot recently, having posted 100 or more rushing yards the last three times he's played. Boone Presnell made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.
Columbia is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season. As for Athens Academy, their win bumped their record up to 6-4.
