Eisenhower is 0-10 against Nimitz since January of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The Eisenhower Eagles will head out on the road to challenge the Nimitz Cougars at 12:00 p.m. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Wednesday, Eisenhower didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Aldine, but they still walked away with a 43-37 win. The win was just what Eisenhower needed coming off of a 63-39 defeat in their prior matchup.
Genesis Watson was the offensive standout of the match as she scored 15 points along with four steals. Another player making a difference was Keiora Gaines, who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds.
Nimitz posted their closest win yet this season on Wednesday. They had just enough and edged Westfield out 58-55. Given Nimitz's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 199th, while Westfield is ranked 641st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Aniah Richard continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 21 points along with eight steals and six assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Kyndall Roberts, who scored 17 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Eisenhower's win ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-18. As for Nimitz, they are on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 15 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 18-6 record this season.
Saturday's match is shaping up to be a scrappy match: Eisenhower have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 21.1 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Nimitz, though, as they've been averaging only 26.4 rebounds per game. Given Eisenhower's sizeable advantage in that area, Nimitz will need to find a way to close that gap.
Eisenhower might still be hurting after the 60-35 loss they got from Nimitz in their previous matchup back in December of 2023. Can Eisenhower avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
