It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but the Grand Island Islanders had no problem doing just that on Friday. They came out on top against Kearney by a score of 29-19. The win made it back-to-back wins for Grand Island.
Grand Island's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Bode Albers led the charge by rushing for ten yards and two touchdowns, while also throwing for 134 yards and a touchdown. Caleb Richardson and his 85 yards on the ground were also a key factor in Grand Island's victory.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Grand Island's defense and their six sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Kaden J roberson and Justyce Hostetler who racked up five sacks between them.
Grand Island now has a winning record of 6-5. As for Kearney, their loss dropped their record down to 8-2.
Grand Island will head out on the road to face off against Millard West at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Millard West will be looking to keep their four-game home win streak alive. Kearney does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
