Westview is 9-1 against Churubusco since May of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. The Warriors will challenge the Eagles at 1:00 p.m. Westview's pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so Churubusco's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Westview will roll into the match after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up two runs on Saturday, then bounced right back against Elkhart on Tuesday. The Warriors came out on top against the Lions by a score of 12-8. The win continues a trend for the Warriors in their matchups with the Lions: they've now won three in a row.
Gavin Engle made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Maverick Deveau, who went 3-for-5 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Westview's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 9-11 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Jaxon Miller, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
Westview kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in May of 2024.
Meanwhile, Churubusco waltzed into their contest on Tuesday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 5-4 W against the Warriors. That's two games straight that the Eagles have won by just one run.
Ethan Hartsock tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 11 over six innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024.
On the hitting side, Drake Richards was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most runs he has posted over his last 11 games. Another player making a difference was Cameron Patten, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one double.
Westview now has a winning record of 12-11. As for Churubusco, their victory bumped their record up to 9-17.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Westview has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 10 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Churubusco struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Westview was able to grind out a solid win over Churubusco in their previous meeting two weeks ago, winning 4-1. Will the Warriors repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
