The Jacobs Golden Eagles scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Saturday. They put the hurt on Alcott with a sharp 73-51 win. Given Jacobs' advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 276th, while Alcott is ranked 678th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Jacobs was led to victory by Nolan Roper and Treval Howard. Roper scored 14 points along with five assists and three steals, while Howard scored 23 points along with five rebounds and two steals. Ben Jurzak was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Jacobs' victory bumped their record up to 13-16. As for Alcott, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last ten games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-11 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Jacobs will challenge Crystal Lake South at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Crystal Lake South will roll in looking for their 13th straight victory, something Jacobs surely won't give up without a fight. Alcott is on the road again on Friday and plays St. Patrick at 5:00 p.m. on February 16th.
