Groesbeck got a massive performance out of Brittyn Bradley, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. Kealey Trojacek was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2.
Groesbeck always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .647. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Fairfield fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Elkhart on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Elks by a score of 4-2. That makes it the first time this season the Eagles have let down their home crowd.
Haylee Allen spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits and racked up 17 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Fairfield saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Evelyn Fultz, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI.
Fairfield's loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 9-1 and their overall record down to 11-3. As for Groesbeck, their victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 5-11.
